PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Blue whale is the largest animal on earth that can measure up to 30 meter in length. They weight up to 200 tonnes. Aside from their large size, they can be identified from their small dorsal fin. They have rounded rostrum which is the anterior part of the skull and approximately 90 ventral grooves that reach the navel. They have rows of 300-400 baleen plates on each side of the mouth. The blue whale actually lightly mottled blue-grey in colour with light grey of yellow-white belly.

BEHAVIOR

The blue whales can be found traveling alone or with a group of 2 – 3 whales. They communicate with each other by using a powerful voice that can travel thousands of miles and penetrate the deep water. They can swim up to 50 km per hour at short burst, but their normal cruising speed is about 20 km per hour.
